The imagery in my paintings is that of abstract shapes that have been gathered from sources such a doorways, windows, tombstones and other human objects that easily take on alter meanings for not only myself, but more importantly the viewer. The sizes of these shapes maintain their human scale when transferred to the canvas and are often directly related in size to every day objects such as two by four studs that are used in construction. Paint is applied in many thin layers, building up in some areas obscuring the under laying drawing while remaining thin in others, allowing bright pigments to radiate from within. Some of the surface area is also sanded away as a means of erasure, which furthers the layering effect of the painting. The end result is not a picture abstracted from life, but rather an object of its own being.
